Dragons of Ethior
As a former cultist of Orcus, Kalarel was a brilliant magical mind. His ability to raise and manipulate the undead was prized by his new employer, Sulveras. The dragon hired him to locate and utilize any ancient magics he could find in the old Shadowfell Keep. Kalarel did his job well, beginning the process that would raise some dark horror from the depths of the Shadowfell itself.
Before the rite could be completed, however, he was interrupted by the band of heroes. The horror in the portal, seeing the immanent death of Kalarel, drew him into the portal. Kalarel’s failure would be punished.
Granted one last chance, he was reborn as a lich, a terrible undead spellcaster whose soul is locked away in some magical item. With the terrible Black Beast at his side, Kalarel began the first step of plan to make himself unbeatable. He pulled the heroes into the Shadowfell, in an attempt to capture Hhana and drain the deva’s life force. But the plan went awry, and he ended up with Hhana’s sister, Rola, instead. Still determined, he went through with the dark ritual. Interrupted by the heroes, he continued with the ritual. Hhana, determined to save her sister, took her place in the magic circle. When the ritual killed her and transferred her life to him, Kalarel teleported away, gloating in his victory.
